Casa Vecino Sayulita Guest House

My name is Gabriel Jones and I am one of the owner-operators of Casa Vecino Guesthouse.  This is my first blog, I wanted to introduce myself, our guesthouse, and let you know what to expect in future blogs. Thank you for reading!

I am a 40-something Canadian; my wife, Wendy, and I moved to Sayulita about eight years ago with our two Canadian Chihuahuas. Our original plan was to take a one- year break from our busy city lives before returning tot the bustle and beauty of Vancouver. That plan changed shortly after we arrived. We realized that life in Sayulita was too good to limit ourselves to just one year.

For my first four years in Mexico I worked for a Canadian magazine about Mexico (Mexi-Go!). I had the opportunity to travel all over this beautiful country. It was an amazing experience. I fell more in love with Mexico with each adventure, but also grew to appreciate Sayulita more each time I returned home. My wife Wendy (who works from home as a project manager) and I rented a few different casas for the first four years in Sayulita. We also experimented with living in different parts of town before eventually buying a fixer upper on the southside of town. Four years ago it was a modest one story house in a great neighborhood, now it’s Casa Vecino Guesthouse. With the help of our business partner Peter, we started an ambitious renovation. We added two more floors to the main house then built a smaller standalone building in the back yard with a refreshing saltwater swimming pool.

The concept for the guesthouse actually came about in my early 20’s when I took a small business development course. My final project was a business plan about operating a bed and breakfast on the beach. I’m so thrilled that I was able to pursue an idea that started as a class project. Hosting guests and making sure they have the best vacation possible is one of my favorite things to do in life. Building and running this beautiful property with my wife is literally a dream come true.

The project took just under a year to complete and we decided on the name Casa Vecino.  We chose the name because vecino, ‘neighbor’ in Spanish, is my nickname in our neighborhood. We want everyone who stays with us to feel like the friendliest neighborhood in Sayulita is their neighborhood.  This new and thoughtfully designed vacation rental complex is comprised of 2 buildings surrounded by a security wall.  We offer 4 separate rental units or the entire guesthouse can be rented. We still live in the original house on the ground floor of the main building separate from the guest suites.  The property features a heated saltwater pool, rooftop patio with a beautiful ocean view, high- speed internet, extra comfortable premium king- sized mattresses, AC, ceiling fans, and well-appointed kitchens.  We are located in the lovely and vibrant beach town of Sayulita, 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta.
